Internet Addresses Expected to Run Out in Less Than a Year

x10sctmp3

The world’s coming to an end! According to experts, internet addresses will run out in less than a year. Currently, the internet protocol used by most web users is IPv4. The 32-digit unique number provides around four billion IP addresses and is used to identify every internet-connected device, including computers and mobile phones.

There are only around 232 million IP addresses left currently. Due to the surge of smartphones and other devices, it is predicted that the amount of IP addresses left will only last us about 340 days.

So what will happen when we run out? ISPS might start forcing customers to share IP addresses, causing common applications, like iTunes and Gmail, to not work.

The other long-term solution is to make the switch to IPv6. The 128-digit address would give everyone in the world more than four billion addresses, each. It hasn’t been implemented widely yet since every internet-connected device would need to be reconfigured or upgrade, forcing some users to buy new hardware.

Who knew back then that our washing machines might require an IP address? [via Fox News]

Novelty Nintendo Cartridge Soaps

This cool novelty item comes from GeekSoap. They have released a selection of soaps that look like gaming cartridges and are too awesome to use.

For copyright reasons, they couldn’t actually put names on the soaps but they are obviously in the shape of the NES, SNES, N64, and Game Boy cartridges.

Buy them at GeekSoap for about $2-$8.

Don’t want to spend money on an iPad dock? Ian Collins came up with a clever way to make an iPad stand from its own packaging.

Get the Best Microwave Popcorn

Stove-top and machine popcorn is moister and fluffier than microwave popcorn so how do we solve this problem? This solution comes from a microwave popcorn bag freebie found by HeartBurnKid. It calls for heating a cup of water for one minute on high right before you put in your microwave popcorn.

Go out and give this a try and tell us how it tastes!

The Impact of Internet

Imagine a life without Internet. Could you even imagine your life without it? Could you imagine the whole world not having Internet? What kind of impact has the Internet made on our society? To describe the internet in one word, I would say “connection”. It plays a role in everyone’s life and helps connect us to everything and everyone else. From browsing the news to using Facebook, we use the internet everyday. Just over a billion people use the World Wide Web. That’s 3 out of every 4 Americans in North America.

What do you think? Do we really need the internet? Leave a comment down below and be sure to check out the video on how the internet is transforming our world.
